Why Volunteer?

Every year, thousands of animals in Manitoba are abandoned, abused, or surrendered. Penny’s steps in to offer these animals medical care, foster placement, rehabilitation, and adoption services—but we can’t do it alone. Volunteers are the heart of our rescue, playing a critical role in everything from animal care and transportation to fundraising and event support.

Volunteering doesn’t just change the lives of animals—it changes yours too. It’s a chance to be part of something bigger than yourself, to gain valuable experience, and to connect with others who share your love for animals. Whether you’re walking a rescue dog, organizing supplies, or helping at adoption events, every task contributes to a brighter future for animals in need.

No Experience? No Problem!

You don’t need to be a vet or an animal expert to help. We welcome volunteers of all backgrounds and skill levels. All you need is a kind heart, a willingness to learn, and a commitment to showing up. Our team will provide the training and guidance you need to succeed and feel confident in your role.

Some of the volunteer opportunities at Penny’s include:

• Foster Care: Open your home to a dog, cat, or small animal in need of love and stability.
