Mullagan

Five days ago, we received a call about two little dogs who had been abandoned at Larter’s Golf Course.

Penny and a team member headed out, set up live traps and began trying to bring these frightened little ones to safety. Thankfully, with some patience, and some very tempting food, they managed to catch this little guy and named him Mullagan.

Sadly, his sister never got the same happy ending. She was struck by a vehicle, possibly a car or golf cart, and although we desperately hoped she would make it, we believe she suffered internal injuries and passed away.

Mullagan is now safe with us and showing us more of his personality every day.

We believe he is only about 6-7 months old, and underneath that initial shyness is a sweet, funny little boy who is absolutely full of life and energy.

He is VERY food motivated, which thankfully, is exactly what helped us catch him! He is gentle with the other dogs and if one growls or tells him they’ve had enough, Mullagan simply backs away. He seems to understand and respect their boundaries.

And he has found himself a rather unlikely best friend. Penny’s big Great Dane/Husky, Ben Jay.

Mullagan will go up on the bed with Penny at night, but when it’s actually time to sleep, he prefers to climb back down and curl up on the floor beside his big buddy. There is something incredibly sweet about watching this little abandoned dog find comfort and security beside a dog several times his size.

For a little guy who was left to fend for himself, Mullagan is doing remarkably well.

We couldn’t save his sister, and that part of his story will always hurt. But this little guy is safe and will go on to live his best life
